Ahead of its North American debut at the Los Angeles auto show, Subaru showed off its upcoming Solterra crossover to the world. While the partnership with Toyota is not exactly new, the direction is a huge departure from the previous coupe collaboration.

Though details are still sparse on the upcoming crossover, Subaru does mention the Soltera uses motors at the front and rear axles. Subaru doesn’t mention performance numbers, though Toyota says that its version of this driveline will offer 215 hp in all-wheel-drive trim. The Toyota also features a front-drive-only model with 201 hp. As for range, Subaru also doesn’t mention the number, but Toyota says its all-wheel-drive models will travel about 286 miles on a charge.



Subaru did reveal the interior of the upcoming Solterra, which looks interesting. In front of the driver, there’s a smaller gauge cluster that is flanked by a massive center screen. The instrument cluster still relays all the essential information you need like remaining range and speed.

We should learn more when the Solterra gets its official unveiling at the Los Angeles auto show in a few days. Performance figures often shift by region and sometimes by manufacturer, even on co-developed products like this Solterra. Still, this 2023 battery-electric crossover could have major implications for the future of Subaru, which will be interesting to see.
